Journal Entry: Eduardo Luis Valdes-03/22/2025-Day 1284

Journal Entry

I went to sleep early last night, or at least as early as I was able to. Opening my eyes to look at my watch, it’s only 4:57am, and my bladder is about to explode…

Once I finish in the restroom I head back to bed, and luckily fall right asleep, but awake again at 6:30 to wait for the first move, and take Mr. Rivero and my commissary sheets to drop in the bins since I may not make it before lunch time, since I should be in the visit room.

I find out we did not come in first place with our unit sanitation, so our commissary day will be Wednesday instead of Monday, so they will be removing our letter from the commissary-list drop boxes and hopefully they do not lose our lists that were already put in.

Back in the unit, I start getting ready for my visit today. I can’t wait, but I also think I am running late so I begin to rush, cafecito in hand, it’s still hot, I have to drink it before I put my uniform on and possibly drip on it.

I am ready to go, I hear the officer call a few names over the PA but I don’t understand it well. I go over and ask him if he called my name, he says yes, but only so that we are ready, that we will be called in a little bit. After a good 30 minutes of waiting, the officer calls three names, and I tells them to head to the visiting room. I tag along and take the walk over to the visiting room, where thankfully I did, because I could see through the windows that my mima was already sitting down inside waiting. We go inside, strip down for the visual search then head in to see our families. Mom is the best, she already has a few things ready for me. First was a small sub of egg, bacon, cheese, sausage, plus a Yoohoo to drink. After count at 10, I had a small sub philly cheesesteak, with a bag of jalapeno chips, and a Mountain Dew to drink. Nearing the end of visit, I shared a banana muffin with mima.

We took the 12:30 move, I said goodbye, and went over to the visual search area, then out over to my unit. As I enter the unit and walk to my room, Mr. Campos’ roommate asks me for my roommate and my bowl and serves us some chicken and rice he prepared for his own birthday today, I returned to my room and ate with my roommate, then I felt a nap coming in, so I put my ear plugs in and got into bed.

Right before count came through, my roommate tapped my bed for me to wake up, I got down from my bed and stood for count. Mr. Lorenzo decided to prepare some food and two desserts for a friend’s birthday, so we all gathered together in my room to share the prison-made pizzas, and prison-made cheesecakes. I am so full, I have eaten so much today, time to clean up a bit, my roommate went to clean the bowls and utensils we used, while I swept the room.

I sit down to read my daily devotionals, and from “Jesus First for Men 365 Devotions to Start Your Day”, it speaks on “What We Know”.
“For those who listen with open hearts will receive more revelation. But those who don’t listen with open hearts will lose what little they think they have!”
[Mark 4:25]

What a beautiful verse this is. Open your heart, and act on what we learn from God rather than not listening with an open hear and act on what we THINK we know from God. This is what I take from it. Same way as many preach the Word of God, but do the opposite of what they know, or for example, like I always tell others, “I don’t know the Word of God as some others may, but I know how to behave according to the Word of God, and that means more in God’s eyes.” As I have promised God going forward in my life, I will live by his commandments as best as I can and follow His word as much as humanly possible.

6pm move is called, some ask me if I am going to the rec yard and walk off the food, I told them I wasn’t in the mood, or even able to move so much from how full I was. I grab my radio and watch the 6:30pm news on ABC, and I hear over the PA system there is a full recall, everyone back to their units and into a lockdown after a power surge. I see Mr. Garcia come into the Glasshouse and he calls me over to he and Mr. Bethune’s room, to talk for a bit. I tell him, “You see why I didn’t go to the rec yard, I knew this lockdown would happen”, we laughed, and had a some interesting conversation, but it’s time to sit and watch TV until I call mom.

8:10pm, I head to the phone and call mom; I hear mima in the background. My niece is there watching her shows. They say she has gotten so tall its unbelievable. I’m so happy knowing she is able to spend the weekends with them. Now time to shower, and warm up, it is soooo cold here in the Glasshouse, doesn’t help that it is cold outside also.

Father God thank you. I know Dear Lord that I am more arrogant than you eve were, You, the Son of God, are so far beyond me in both wisdom and humility, help me learn from you oh God. Help me, and continue guiding me to where You need me to be. Thank you for constantly showing me you are here with me Father God. In your name Jesus I pray, Amen.
