Journal Entry: Eduardo Luis Valdes-02/24/2025-Day 1258

Journal Entry

Visit day today, Monday February 24, 2025, so no need to rush in getting out of bed. “Work call” is called out by the officer and I get out of bed to start getting ready. I fold my sheets, organize my things for inspection, and grab what I need to wash up. Back to my room, I grab my mug and an apple cinnamon tea pouch and fill my mug with boiling water.

As I sit to wait for visit, I get called into the mailroom nearby to place stamps on a box I have prepared to send home due to not having space here to keep them. Returning into the unit I hear my name is called for visit and I head out of the unit over to the visiting room, head into the search area, then in to where my dad is waiting. We spent a good two hours together, but it was so cold in there, he had to leave before his cold kicked in again.

Leaving the visit area, I head back towards the unit where I prepare myself hot ramen soup with pork cracklings and seasonings, as I am still cold from the visit, in hopes of warming up, followed by a cafecito. Not a good mix but it sat well with me. I sit in my room to read my daily devotionals and wait for count.

I am able to call dad to say hello, and thank him for coming to visit, but need to cut the call short as I am running low on minutes. Count clears and I put some shoes on to get ready for the call for chow. Bon-Bon twisted his ankle last night in the rec-yard so his foot is all wrapped up in bandage and he is stumbling around with a cane. Since Mr. Rivero won’t be attending dinner tonight, I offer Bon-Bon to push him in Mr. Rivero’s wheelchair over to dinner.

The food was good tonight, as it was some sort of roast beef slices with rice and green beans. We put our trays in the dish washing window and I wheel Bon-Bon back over to the unit. I prepare another little cafecito for myself but this time with a drop of Nutella; my oh my!!! I sit down with my radio to watch some television series that is playing, and when it finishes I will take a shower.

No shower cleaning for me today, so I will just give myself a shower, put my clothes in the laundry bins, and enjoy the rest of the evening watching television. Tomorrow I have a callout for psychology for day 3 of my “Empathy for Victims” course. My booklet is halfway complete which is more than I need for tomorrow. I just called mom, spent a whole two minutes on the call, everyone is doing good; missing each other more and more.

I pray dear Lord asking you for constant help in building my faith. Father God please don’t ever leave my side, guide me, protect me, show me what I need to do going forward. Thank you for all the good things you have put in my path, and allowing me to pick the correct way of doing things. Thank you for giving me the will to be there to help others, and for giving me a loving, caring heart. Thank you Lord for this day and for everything that came along with it, and for allowing my dad to visit me. I pray for a great evening, a great night sleep, and the strength to start a new day early tomorrow. In your name Jesus I pray, Amen.
