Monday morning, commissary day, woke up a sleeping Mr. Rivero, and wheeled him out of the unit over to the dining room first for breakfast, then right out front to commissary. Luckily this morning there weren’t too many waiting to purchase, and after calling me for my items, they called him right after, we got all our items and headed back to the dorm.
Today is visit day, so I went to my room prepared myself in my Class A uniform, boots and went to the chapel to work the morning as I waited for my visitor to arrive.
A good friend of mine of many years came to visit me today. There aren’t enough words in the English language to describe how excellent of a person this friend of mine is. I met Mr. Bermudez back in 2010, as we both worked as technicians for a large telecommunications company. We worked together throughout my 6 years with the company.
Mr. Bermudez was there for me when I was struck by a car; was there for me during my year and a half of cancer treatments, and once again, he is there for me while I am going through my prison term. I cannot thank him enough, and he is probably the only true friend I have ever had, and I will forever be grateful of him.
Mr. Bermudez stayed with me for several hours as we talked about past times, joked about some good memories we have, and much more. The three hours flew by, as we talked and talked. After visit, I returned to the dorm with such a positive mindset and felt completely renewed. The testimonies we shared of what we have each learned through his church and our chapel here, really touched my heart, and I bring these testimonies back with me to share with others on the compound.
It’s count time, and its pouring rain, so before lockdown I verify if Mr. Rivero wants to eat in the dining room, but he doesn’t, and would rather prepare something for both of us here in the unit. We sit and eat after count, and once again, he miraculously created a glorious meal for us. I cleaned up while he went to play dominoes then I went to watch some news, showered then called my parents. The night is ending, we are one day closer to August, and U.S.A is kicking butt in the Olympics. Going back to watch a few more minutes before lockdown. Goodnight.
