We Dont Get Second Chances??
On Sunday April 6, 2025, ciaos and confusion filled A South, when our counselor Gainer made a town hall. Town hall as follows, ” TOWN HALL, TOWN HALL. Everyone listen up. Anyone eligible for ‘the second chance act” will only receive up to sixty days across the board of half way house. I don’t know anything else as of now, I’ll inform you as I receive information.” Me being me, I asked about a transfer to camp and was told that I have to undergo a “institutional adjustment” and be at FCI Tallahassee for a minimum of 365 days. I have only been in this environment for about 50 days and seen many woman come and go upon arrival so I know its possible, with here case load I can give her the benefit of the doubt and figure it out.
Question engulf the counselor as she was trying to exit the room. Leaving a room full of over one hundred women in question and limbo about there futures, families and children, who’s next birthday they anticipated being in attendance, due to the second chance act that giving an inmate unto 365 day of half way house and/or home confinement.
The media doesn’t make it any better with the articles and opinions about the BOP budget and staffing issues. So where does this leave the adults in custody? With a plethora of question regarding our futures. There are organizations that work diligently to help and influence prison reform. All the suggestion pertaining to our lives tell us to be patient and embrace change, good or bad. Changes that are imperative to our futures, families future and how we make decisions moving forward.
No one understand that prison turns you into an addict. You hurry up and wait for anything, like and addict sufferings with an opioid addiction. We wait for breakfast, lunch, dinner, commissary, mail room, receiving and departure, literally EVERYTHING.
Now we wait for decisions about our lives as well due to budgets and short staffing. Bullshit. I understand that I committed a crime, but the punishment does NOT fit the crime. The BOP have us draft half ass release plans to sit and wait for a “possible” release date, that’s may or may not be correct once we do our second team.
So now we have paperwork that “null and void” due to the drastic change that just took place. So to add insult to injury, are the 945 inmate at this facility getting reteamed? So many questions and nor enough answers. Just a thought.
Federally Yours,
