Changes I would like in American Prison system:
I think it would be essential to give each inmate, who had a public defender, a survey on how well they think they were represented. As a first-time offender, I was very naive. I never asked my attorney for much, I had someone on the outside provide him with documents and an affidavit to help my case, the person who had called the police on me and make a false statement was also reaching out to my attorney, willing to come forward. With all this being available I begged my attorney to please let me plead not guilty and he refused. He also didn’t let me see the affidavit, I had to have someone on the outside read it to me. Over all my attorney told me not to speak during court, plead me guilty, and forced me to sign a no appeal document. His words to me were “No one is going to believe you, just do the time”. Now I feel he just wanted to close the case ASAP to collect payment and go on to the next. I wish someone would of told me I could of asked for another one. I think the system should do a survey or have something similar to YELP reviews on attorneys with honest testimonies from inmates.
