I wanted to give an update on the classes I have taken or am signed up for, as well as an update on my exercise for the past month. For reference purposes, I signed up for nearly all of these within 3 weeks of being here, so I believe I have done my part to take the classes. If they don’t offer them, then there is nothing I can do about that.
First, I am signed up for the following FSA classes – as soon as a class opens, I will either get in or move up the list:
* Faith Based Conflict Management
* House of Healing
* Arthritis Foundation
* Brain Health As You Age
* Wellness Inside & Out.

I have taken or am taking the following FSA classes:
* Embracing Interfaith Cooperation – finished
* Threshhold – this is an 18-week course (once per week) and I am about 2/3 finished with it.

I have taken two ACE (Adult Cooperative Education) classes taught by inmates, both of which were very good.
* Spanish II
* Nutrition

Regarding exercise, I did the following in the month of June:
* 3,945 push-ups – more than in May
* 4,700 sit-ups – more than in May
* 128 pull-ups
* walked 18 miles around the track
* 980 squats – more than in May
* 100 dips (just started doing at the end of the month) – more than in May
* lifted weights seven days – More than in May.

I intended to do much more, but last week’s extreme heat kept outside rec closed, which means no lifting weights, walking or doing pull-ups. Plus, some days after lifting weights, I was so sore that I could not do any sit-ups or push-ups. Still, I did more this month than last month and envision that I will do more in August than I did in July – assuming we can get to outside rec. Lifting weights is new to me, but I have a good cadre of guys who work out with me and show me the way. I can already see a difference – probably because I started from such a low point.

I also now understand that one should not just exercise the mind or just the body, but that the two go hand-in-hand and that strengthening both of them is the best way forward. Wish me luck as I enter the month of July.
