Journal Entry

A funny story happened to me this morning. After breakfast this morning, I returned to the unit to get ready for work and brush my teeth. After spitting out the toothpaste, I saw that it was slightly pink with some red blotches in it. I immediately freaked out about gingivitis, wondering how that happened when I am now taking care of my teeth better than ever before. I even floss once a day – something I never did before. Then I realized that I had Twix cereal for breakfast with its red, orange, etc. cereal and some of it was caught in my teeth. I don’t think I have eaten Twix cereal in probably 3-4 decades. I am not even sure I have ever even tried it. Anyways, I then realized then that Twix aren’t just for kids – they are also to scare prisoners into thinking they haven’t been doing a good enough job on their dental care!

It is currently over 90 degrees F and nearly all the units in Lexington do not have AC. I know that if I can fall asleep, I will be OK, but the difficult part is just getting to sleep. I struggled with it Sunday night, but last night I think I found the trick. I take a quick cold shower, dry off slightly and then run to bed and lay down with the fan blowing on me with the evaporating water cooling me off. Worked like a charm – I fell asleep even before I was dried off.
