In prison, looks can be deceiving. A couple days ago, I saw a big, bad looking dude from my unit going to chow. The type of guy who if you saw walking toward you on the sidewalk, you would certainly be aware of him and probably put your hand on your wallet or purse. He saw a guy in a wheelchair inching along and he ran up to him and immediately started pushing him to dinner.
There is another guy in my unit with tattoos up and down his arms & he rarely smiles. He has been in for 10+ years and said he can do 1500 push-ups in an hour. Looking at his arms, I believe it. Two weeks ago, I walked by his room and he had crocheted a doll. Who knew that he could crochet? Who knew that such a bad-ass would take the time to do it? As it turns out, another guy in our unit is getting out in about 3 weeks. He wanted to have a doll to take with him to give to his granddaughter, so he paid 7 books of stamps for this guy to do it (about $56).
I am not saying that every guy in prison who looks bad doesn’t have a hard heart and can or should be trusted, but there are certainly a number of them who should not be judged by a first glance at them. Alot of guys here made a mistake and are paying for it with years, maybe even decades, of their lives.
