Journal Entry: Dennis Zeedyk-04/07/2025-Journal & prison goals revisited

Journal Entry

Michael Santos said you have to keep track of your goals and be accountable to yourself. Now that I have been in prison for a little over three months, I want to revisit my goals and share my progress:

  1. When I came to prison, I had a list of 85 books to read. I have added some to the list and it is now around 120 books. I have read over 65 books and completed 45 book reports that are on PrisonProfessorTalent.com. I only do book reports on what I call the “serious” books. If I read some easy-to-read fiction book, no report gets written. With working at Unicor, my ability to read and complete book reports is diminished, but my goal is to do two per week. That gives me about 30 weeks more of reading or about 8 months worth.
  2. I wanted to learn Spanish. I am up to about 100 words, but stalled out with other things going on. To be honest, I was waiting until I got into Spanish 2 class. I found out yesterday that I start my weekly class next Thursday, April 10th. That is two hours per day, once per week for 8 weeks. I am sure that will vault me forward.
  3. Work out and lose weight. At last count, I was doing 120 sit-ups (could do all 130 non-stop) and 130 push-ups, 25 at a time. My stomach bug pushed me back a bit, but I will get back at it this week. The one thing the stomach bug did do it help get me down to 178 pounds. You can see as my love handles are a little smaller than they used to be.
  4. Stop swearing. I consider this goal completed. I am still amazed that I got this bad habit beat in prison – but feel good about it. I can now focus more energy on the other goals.
