Journal Entry

1) One thing I am thankful for is that I have relatively good teeth. I am fortunate that I was taught to brush my teeth at a young age, had my cavities filled and when possible, caps put on teeth that were really bad. I do not have any missing teeth. I had my teeth cleaned and all checked out before I came to prison & I brush my teeth religiously in prison. Unfortunately, this is not the norm. You see many people who do not have any teeth (probably meth users) or have quite a few teeth missing. Some of those who have teeth have ones that are broken off or rotten. I don’t say this to be mean – just to point out how lucky I am in this regard.

2) I am now doing 130 sit-ups without stopping. I am doing my 130 push-ups in sets of 25 each & cranked out 24 pull-ups today. Unlike some people, I go all the way down and all the way up when I do my push-ups – same think for pull-ups. Starting next week I will increase the number. I am also starting to do some other exercises to add to the mix.

3) We have to buy our pens at commissary when we get to go once a week. Do you know how much more careful you are with a pen when they are not just lying around? When you only have 3 pens to your name, you practically guard them with your life. As an addendum to this, almost no one has a permanent marker and highlighters & post-it notes are relatively hard to come by. Fortunately, I have access to them at work.

4) I met a man who was at Ohio State about the same time as me. He graduated a year ahead of my with a degree in Psychology.

5) I applied to start working in the Suicide Watch program. We will see what comes out of that. In brief, you take a 4-hour shift to watch people who may attempt suicide. I can use this time to read, write, watch movies or exercise.

6) I received two books yesterday from someone – Walking His Trail by Steve Saint and End of the Spear by Steve Saint. I would like to know who sent them so I can thank them.
