Journal Entry

Hello Prison Professors Audience. It has been a frustrating month. Former President Biden denied my clemency petition on his way out of office, and then I was denied transfer closer to home. I have yet to be close to home and able to see my family since I started this sentence. As frustrating as it has been, I continue to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel. While there are several sources for that light, one major one is people like Adam Clausen who overcame a 213 year federal prison sentence. Through his hard work and perseverance, he has not only been able to get home, but accomplish so many amazing things in the short time he has been out. Someone recently brought me a Department of Education book and after opening it to a page asked me if this guy was the same Adam I was always sharing about. There was Clausen’s picture and a story about him. Besides prison reform, and so many other things, Adam continues to impact people inside and out with his story. I continue to press forward and try and be a fraction of the impact that he has been. Regardless of clemency, transfer, or anything else, wherever I am I will continue to better myself, and impact others in a positive way. “Be the change you want to see!” “Focus on the things you can control.” I have a notebook with hundreds of saying I was told when going through the courses over the years by men like Adam, they have been ingrained in my mind and daily habits. While on the phone with Adam the other day, his son was getting in on the conversation and shared what was the best part of his day. Another Coaching technique that shows that not only has Adam not forgotten all the tools, but even utilizes them with his own young son. I have no doubt little CJ’s first words were positive affirmations or some Coaching tool lol. Thank you again Adam, and all the others who have impacted, and continue to impact us in here, and society as a whole. Because of your great contributions society is able to see us and know that change is possible.
