TO: PEER SUCCESS THINK TANK LEADERS (THE COLLECTIVE)
FROM: CATHERINA VOSS, CEO PEER SUCCESS TEAM
With New leadership, there are new changes. I know some of these are not going to be
met with joy and happiness, but there are reasons why the changes need to take place
at this time. So let me let you know what is going on with our Peer Support Team…
Before I could get this meeting, Simira and I needed to do ALOT! – Such as:
– Mending Staff support that has been broken with PST
– Investigating problems and what is really going on in EACH UNIT!
– Preparing a new system – one that is secure and will function easily if followed.
– Make hard decisions about changes that have been made and being enforced with the
support of both our Liaisons.
– Coming up with a way to lessen the load on our Liaisons- Spicer and Daniel –
WHO WE ARE:
The Peer Support Team is an inmate ran program consisting of 13 Collective members that
make sure that the program is lead in the correct direction (following rules, and enforcing
them). The Liaisons: Ms. Spicer and Ms. Daniel are there to guide us and provide
information when there is a safety or institution issue. Our group has an appointed
PST Head: CEO -Cat Voss
PST Creative Director – Simira Singleton
PST Secretary (Problem Specialist/Neutralist) – S. Nabi
I rely on Simira for support and with her we have come up with moving this program
in a new direction which will allow this program to shine the way it deserves. In am effort to
create order. please utilize the CHAIN OF ORDER when addressing problems – this will
go to Ms. Nabi before coming to me or Simira. Ms. Nabi is our Problem Specialist and remains
neutral in sensitive situations. Let’s fix problems-in house-first!
With this said – We are at a CRUTIAL time with our Team…WHY?
-If things do not change for the better, we will loose our Liaisons.
How disappointing for them to work so hard to get us a time for the 90 day challenge,
to get the date pulled b/c of our Representation. The Staff that we or our Liaisons have
to ask for things like dates for meetings and events, were not willing to do that for us b/c
of the way the program is negatively being seen as. It is frustrating for Liaisons and if we
do not step up and show them that our members can be: self sufficient, free from drugs,
respectful, mindful and truthful, they will step down.
Again – WE ARE AT A CRUTIAL AND IMPORTANT TIME FOR THE PEER SUCCESS TEAM.
Simira and I have been working hard these last 2 weeks with meetings and emails to
staff members to earn our respect back with them. I have personally put my name on this
program and have promised staff that I will lead you in a positive direction that allows us
to regain our trust with staff and our community.
-The 90 day challenge event – I want to continue and secure a date for this because I want to
send a message to the community that we follow through with our word.
Simira and I are working on securing our 90 day challenge event – it is in the works!
-Currently and over the last 3 months, we have had some members that have been acting
up in the unit with their teams. This chaos creates mistrust within our community which
makes them not take us serious. We also need to clear up the drug problem we have within
OUR group members. I am asking the Leaders to “clean up” their units and I will expect in
1 month to see some better results. If we have a problem with a leader/s, we will bring this
out in the open at our meeting and then the collective and or myself will “clean it up”.
I have met with Ms. Spicer and she and Ms Daniel are fully aware and support these decisions.
I am not going around and just removing people. I will investigate the situation and go from
there. I have already investigated several problems and we are going to address them ALL.
I need for my Think Tank leaders to help with cleaning up this program. We are going to start
from the ground up and change things up and move this in the correct direction. There is going
to be very hard decisions for you to make and I give you my full support.
In closing, I appreciate each and EVERY one of you and I will do the best to make this program
everything it deserves to be and will give you all the support that you need to do your best.
Faithfully,
Catherina Voss
