Journal Entry

Today was a good day. I was able to obtain a necessary document to allow me to have in my possession the tools i need to promote and function in Peer Success. I have been struggling with the program itself. I believe in it but I am having a lot of resistance from it in the unit and on the compound. With the 90 day Challenge coming, I hope that our community will focus on better ways to cope in prison than turning to things that do not help them such as drugs, fighting, getting involved in things that bring them down. I had to go through this to understand where they are coming from.

While I have been here at Aliceville, I have worked hard to turn around the bad message I was sending with my behavior while incarcerated at Carswell.

In the last 2 weeks, I had meetings with the education dept for setting up Ace Classes in UNICOR in things such as: Single needle machine seamstress, mechanics, resume writing and more. I have been trying to get these classes available in UNICOR to allow inmates to have something tangible to have an advantage on the job force when they get out.

I am a BIG supporter in bettering oneself and being able to help these girls means everything to me right now. I am excited to know the outcome of the classes and when they are going to get introduced. The girls are excited and the atmosphere here could use some happy. We have moved to part-time b/c of the DLS has not been able to come to agreement on how much we are going to be funded to run UNICOR. So we need some uplifting moral here.

Tomorrow is a new day and I look forward to giving someone some hope and a smile.
