Journal Entry: Bennie Earl Magee-02/25/2025-DAY 421

Journal Entry

DAY 421 – 2/25/2025 DON’T MIND ME, I’M ONLY DYING SLOW
Excerpt from my book, “Plea Deal | Journal of a First-Time Felon” – Dr. Ben E. Magee

“Let each thing you would do, say or intend be like that of a dying person.”–Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 2.11.1

I am sure that we have all heard the saying or someone say or ask; “What would you do if you found out tomorrow that you had a terminal illness like cancer?” The question is designed to make you consider how different life might be if you were suddenly given just a few months or weeks to live. There’s nothing like a terminal illness to wake people up.

But here’s the thing; you already have a terminal diagnosis. We all do! We were born to die! As the writer Edmund Wilson said, “Death is one prophecy that never fails.” Every person is born with a death sentence. Each second that passes by is one that we will never get back.

Once we realize this, it will have a profound impact on what we do, say and think. We should not let another day go by in ignorance of the reality that we are dying. Can today be the day we stop pretending otherwise. Instead of wasting time discussing if the glass is half full or half empty, just take the class and drink what is in it.

–Live today as if it is your last and may the best of your todays be the worst of your tomorrows
