What I’ve found out about being incarcerated is that it’s a “state of mind.” Why do I say this? During this period of time that I have been imprisoned, I had access to technology that allowed me to stay current with world views and the ability to observe people through social media. As I compared the people around me to the ones on the internet, and from previous experiences in my life before incarceration, I realized that bars, gates, and chains aren’t what confines us in life. Bad decisions, relationships, financial statuses, mentalities, and quite a few other things, lock us down. When we succumb to whatever has control over us and we can’t move freely, do what we want, say what we wish, or live how we’d like, we are then, incarcerated. In order for us to free ourselves, we have to learn how to think above and around the situations that we are faced with. In all our endeavors, we must begin with the end in mind. It’s like chess. You must always be a few moves ahead of your opponent or he/she will have the advantage or see what you’re thinking and box your king in. Confining him to where he cannot make any more moves. We can’t continue to allow the situations in our life to control how we move. We control the situation so we can move as we please, or need to. Freedom comes in so many forms, just as incarceration does. Take advantage of your freedom and do what is necessary to retain it. It is so valuable and should be cherished! Break those chains…
