Journal Entry

Mr. Santos encourages memorializing our journey through prison in his various books as a way to improve our writing skills and to maintain a record of our experiences. If we then take the next step to write a book, those experiences will be available for future use. I, through the help of my friend Justin, have taken half that step. Justin introduced me to the Prison Journalism Project and I submitted an article that they have entitled ‘Love of Art’ sometime last month. They responded to my article with interest and we have begun the editing process.

Last night I received their edited version and will have to make a few more changes to resubmit the article. Several changes were necessary to fill in backstory for those unfamiliar with the older process of developing film for photography and a couple of minor changes were made to make the story more relatable to the general public. I think most of the changes are fine and hopefully it will be printed soon. I can’t wait to share it with the Prison Professors website!

I’m also really looking forward to the story’s print date because I already have another article written and I am just waiting to submit it. The second article is about mass punishment and how prison administrations use them, regardless of the advancements made in prison reform. I am really excited to see what the Prison Journalism Project thinks about the second one.
