Maintaining Dignity: Another way I maintain dignity is by keeping a job in prison. I work in an office as a clerk. I file, organize, and audit important files. I am also an instructor for various things like driving Forklifts and Floor Maintenance. This helps me keep my mind active and keep up my skill set. I stay productive because I have a responsibility to go to work everyday. I treat it just like a job on the outside world. I treat it with the utmost respect and professionalism. I take pride in making sure my files are correct and easy to understand. It brings me great joy to be able to show people a new skill. I love to see how excited people become when they learn something new. I am also a certified Pest Control Technician. I have learned many things that I thought I would never do before coming to prison. Which actually has opened up my mind to many more job opportunities. Many things I probably would have not considered to even study or work at before coming to prison. I now see all the possibilities and it excites me to know that I have many avenues for employment. I love my job and it makes my time in this place much more productive. I like to stay ready so when the time comes to get out of this place I’m ready.
