Characteristics of a good leader is someone who can think on their feet and stay calm in a stressful situation. In prison chaos can erupt at any moment and many give in to the pandemonium by joining the crowd and becoming a faceless number in the mob. this all starts from the actions of those whose first response is seen then followed by everyone else. humans are followers naturally and will respond in like to whatever they see going on. for example, a correctional officer yells at someone to put their khakis on. instead of just doing it someone yells out F U and soon others join in. I observed one time an inmate said “Yes sir” and the room remained calm with others quietly going into their rooms to change into uniforms with no defiance. this to me was a positive reaction to a situation that could have turned into chaos of profanity led by the actions of one person. a good leader has to think not of just his own actions but how his actions will in turn be followed by others. a good leader always watches what he does because he knows others are watching and he should constantly be prepared to be a leading example for others.
