I actually read a book on the sewing techniques of professional tailors and picked up a few skills that I never thought of before. by taking these tried and true methods of others I applied them to my own technique and made my job easier to do and faster to complete with an improved finished product. by continually developing and improving on my tailor skills I put out better products that people are proud to own and show off thereby attracting others to buy my services. I see guys put up advertisements for their services and they might be a little cheaper than me but their workmanship is shoddy and usually, the customer has to seek out someone to repair their stitches when they break after a few washes. they usually find me. I on the other hand never put up advertisements but continually have customers because I am referenced as the best person to come to if someone wants excellent service at what I think is a fair price. I value myself but I know that not everyone has the money to pay the price I place on my hard work so I am willing to make deals where the customer gets what he wants and I don’t feel like I have been had. and I am willing to go back over my finished products if the customer is unsatisfied or needs to point out fine details that only he can see but cannot fix himself. I take criticism as constructive way of improving myself because it shows where I need to fine tune my craft so I don’t make the mistake the again preventing do-overs.
By being open to customer advice I also earn their respect by not rejecting the idea that I did the job perfectly and am willing to go back to satisfy their needs. to point. some do get carried away and I do reach point it becomes another job and I require further payment to continue because I do have other customers I have to get to. time is money. And I value the knowledge that books give me to use time in the best most economically sound way as possible.
