During my time in prison I’ve learned that just relying on one “hustle” is not going to get me the things I need or want especially when income from home stops. for a long time I would call home and be totally dependent on my family to provide me with money. Over time I felt guilt for putting that kind of strain on them through the years. one day I decided to start providing myself with by using all the opportunities that are offered in this prison environment. from sewing repairs to muscle massage, to tutoring GED students, to teaching nutrition, to physical training. I have been paid in all of these area’s and even though I am not “certified” formally in many of these area’s I had enough knowledge through self study to teach others and provide enough information to help them.
My point is I found out the importance of having more than one source of income stream to rely on instead of being dependent on just one because if that one source doesn’t work out I can switch to another and be able to provide for myself. especially at this place where there is a limited amount of jobs for the inmates to be hired, being there are two thousand inmates at a facility designed for one thousand. I’ve learned it is important to have multiple sources of income.
