I try to speak words that matter and not just say things that have no meaning. people never used to take me seriously because I was an addict and in prison, it is glaringly obvious who an addict is because the population is so small and everything gets noticed. but even then when I did speak the words I said was direct and to the point because I had no time to waste and people noticed that the words I used even when inebriated were those of an educated person in the guise of an addict. so now that I am sober and hold conversations with others some have trouble understanding what I say because I try to convey a message in everything that comes out of my mouth because I want anyone who hears me to learn something and my vocabulary is quite extensive. I might not always have the opportunity to hold someone’s attention for very long especially when music videos or TV. shows are on. and I take time to think about the words that come out of my mouth instead of just blurting whatever comes to my mind like a child with no self-discipline. Although I do have to dumb myself down most of the time to reach those who wouldn’t understand even the words I choose to use or would feel as if I am belittling them for doing so. I’ve gotten into confrontations because of this and have to use foresight in which context to use with whom. It’s wide range of individuals in prison and I have to be aware also what I say how I say it because the walls have ears. but I just want to say that I try to get people out of the prison stereotype that they think they have to live up to. I try to explain that they can better themselves and make the institution better by doing so and not living totally as a prison person. I hope in the long run I get through and can change the demographic of my immediate environment for my betterment as well as theirs.
