The biggest change in the prison system I would like to see is for the correctional staff in all area’s actually held accountable for their wrongful actions that they continue to do against inmates either on a personal basis or against the masses at large. What I mean is that I’ve been locked up for 19 years and have constantly seen correctional staff abuse their position of power out of their own racial prejudice, personal feelings for someone’s crime, or their loyalty to a gang that is in power inside the prison they work at. recently here in Thomson Illinois AUSP the staff have gotten rid of a Warden that was for the inmates trying to make a prison that we could enjoy being at while we program. the staff had other ideas how to run a prison and even had their own correctional officer gang called Black Shirt Mafia of which many of them were and are still currently members of. they tried to set up the warden to get hit by attempting to pay inmates to attack him violently. this all came to light in the media when the warden in question was forced to quit by the Union and afterwards he went on T.V. nothing really changed here except the staff still treat us badly and in my view persecute us daily with no chance for us to fight back because we all came here to program and get out not fight a war against the officials in charge which would give them exactly what they want which is to put this institution on lockdown so they can receive the extra hazard pay. so yes I would like to the staff of prisons held accountable for their wrong actions just as we inmates are.
