I read the “Hagakure” which is also known as The Book of the Samurai and it inspired me to learn more about the person who wrote the book. He was a Samurai who lived in the age of no wars in Japan. He was disappointed in the way that samurai had fallen to activities that normal citizens did making it hard to distinguish them from ordinary folk. in his mind, the samurai were above the the norm and should behave in a certain fashion that was no longer needed because of the lack for their need. in doing so they lost the respect in the eyes of the public and were no longer feared which meant that they no longer followed the rules the shogun implied. not only that but in a philosophical point the samurai no longer had respect for themselves and the position in society they played. it was a vicious cycle that eventually helped with their downfall into the modern age. so he wrote a book to return his fellow samurai to hold themselves in a different light. to hold themselves accountable for their actions and their personal beliefs. in a way it did help the society return to being a sophisticated upper-call regime that could clearly be distinguished from everyday people.
This book inspired me to distinguish myself from the common inmate by changing my personal attitude about life in the way I approach everything around me from the way I speak, the way I act in public, the way I eat, and the way I exercise. I process situations differently because I look at myself as a person who will think about what my actions will bring and how they will not only affect me but those around me and how it will affect the future. my actions are a ripple that creates waves of change not only for me but for others and for everyone’s future. so I am consciously aware of everything I do and say. and I am completely comfortable with living this way. in fact I am proud that I do so and hope to inspire others to do so.
