Date I read the book:
Grit By, Angela Duckworth 6/1/2024-6/12/2024
Why did I choose to read this book?
I chose to read this book because of the name. I have grit but didn’t want to be arrogant in my knowledge and figured since I am incarcerated, I still have alot to learn.
What did I learn from reading this book?
From this book I learned about 1 million things. My memory however, is terrible. I wrote 67 words on a notepad with their definition, to study these words. It was a complicated book to read. It took me about 1.5 hours to read one chapter. I took advantage by writing certain quotes from the book on a notepad so that I can study them. These quotes were mostly motivational. I learned the history of how this skill was discovered and how it combines with resilience. I believed resilience was just knowing how to be strong, but never did I think that it was part of being gritty. I also learned some parenting skills and stole some great ideas. I share them with my wife through trulincs and she was amazed by what she read. She ordered the book for herself to read, which I am very happy about. Angela Duckworth is a highly intelligent woman who I am very thankful to. The amount of research she put into this book has been substantial. The parenting was exhilirating because it has made me feel like I can help my wife by being a father to our children. I definitely took some notes because the book is complex but hopefully, later I take the initiative to re-read this book again.
How will this book contribute to my prospects for success upon release?
This book will contribute to my success because it has filled me with knowledge. I haven’t been able to get into any classes yet but that doesn’t mean I can’t teach myself. I love to learn and Angela Duckworth has been a great teacher. Understanding the history of grit and the amount of research to back up the history of it, has given me so many ideas to identify it and how to apply it. Especially with my children, 3 little humans that I love so much.
