An autobiographic story about the love between a foreign correspondent and his girlfriend, Andi Parhamovich, who tragically lost her life in an ambush in 2007, all against the back drop of the Iraq War.

Having met in the US, they both had to work in a war zone and despite this, their relationship flourished. The harsh realities of having to survive in such a war zone, describing the constant challenges, fears and the ever present danger. Hastings is questioning the policies and challenges the justification of such all-devastating year-long warfare. His story also highlights the role of journalists in war, putting themselves in danger continuously to bring the real story to the world, not to mention the emotional toll this constantly takes on them.

The tragic death of Andi plays a pivotal role in the book, recounting the earth-shattering moment he was informed about the attack, dealing with the aftermath and the deep emotional impact it had, giving testimony of his raw grief and rage.
He gives us an analysis of what could have done differently, all the while dealing with his grief and the harsh reality of a war-torn nation.

Having to be a professional, but all the while not being able to restrain the true emotions and still a correspondent’s sharp critique of one of so many senseless wars, affecting the lives of millions of innocent people.
