Mentoring 101 by John C. Maxwell

I recently read this book b/c Im a mentor in the Peer Success group, it was very enlightening. Its remarkable the positive effects of developing others. Mentors dont have to be highly talented or remarkable – they just have to raise people u & teach them to ‘fly’. To do that its going to take desire & a commitment to the proces, raising others up is the greatest joy in the world. Once people learn to ‘fly’, they’re capable of going anywhere. Sometimes when they’re ‘flying’ they help you along too.
Nothing in life is more fun than helping others change their lives for the better, nor does anything have a greater return. You’ll never regret the time you’ve invested in people.
According to Walter P. Chrysler, founder of the automative cooperation that bears his name, “the reason so many people never get anywhere in life is b/c when opportunity knocks, theyre out in the back yard looking for four-leaf clovers”.
A good attitude is important to success. Newsman Walter Cronkite declared, “I cant imagine a person becoming a success who doesnt give this game of life everything he’s got”.
Does the person make the dream or does the dream make the person?
Ken Blanchard said, “Theres a difference between interest & commitment. When you’re interested in doing something you do it only when its convenient. When you’re committed to something, you accept NO excuses(& become invested). This book helped me in a great way. I am so focused on helping the people around me & investing myself in being a strong positive influence. Shad Helmstetter states in You Can Excel In Times of Change, “Its the goal that shapes the plan; its the plan that sets the action; its the action that achieves the result & its the result that brings the success, and it all begins w/ the simple word “goal”. Ben Franklin set aside time everyday to review two questions: (morning) #1 what good shall I do today? (evening) #2 what good have I done today? I plan to use these two questions everyday, helping me not only change myself but others around me.
This book was very enlightening & I enjoyed what Ive embraced from it.
