This is my book report of the book called the Shack by William P. Young

This book was referred to me by one of the instructors of the Personal Growth class.

I really ENJOYED this read. You must add this book to your library of books to read it was such an awesome realistic fiction!

This is a book about a man who tragically lost his daughter during a trip to nature with his family and his family’s struggle to maintain in the aftermath. This man Mackenzie (Mack) had a terrible childhood, but he overcame that or so he thought and this tragedy certainly was a huge setback and trauma for he and his family.

A few years later he (Mack) receives a typed letter in his mailbox asking him to return to the shack (the scene of the crime) and the note is signed Papa. Somebody from that knew their family had to send this because Papa was a nickname that Mack’s wife Nanette (Nan) used for God. Mack did not know what to make of the note and it bothered him greatly. He did not tell his wife or family about the note. It just so happened that his family was able to go out of town without him and that was the sign he needed to take the long trip back to the shack, the scene of the crime where his beautiful six years old daughter was kidnapped and killed.

This trip changed his life forever, because this book was so good I will not go any further in my overview other than to tell you what my takeaway was, this book encouraged me and made me happy. I could not put this book down it took me three days to finish reading it.

I learned even more about God, about relationships, about rules, about expectations, about perceptions, about friendship, about personal freedom, about consequences, and about true love. I love the way the author was able to illustrate all of this using his fictional imagination (real or not, I think this was real but with a twist). It was very nice, it was awesome!

I will purchase this book once I am back in the community and I heard that there was a movie, but please read the book first do not watch the movie before you read the book. This book really blessed my heart and opened up my understanding much more clearly regarding how God, Jesus, Holy Spirit and we as humans are supposed to interact with each other all the time.

Great book and great lesson to learn!
