This book is a classic and I enjoyed it very much. Much of what he wrote about in his book to include his military career path I could I identify with. I too went through basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama and then after my basic training the schooling for my specialty was there in Alabama. After I graduated, I went to Fort Benning, Georgia to the US Army Airborne school for airborne training. I became a US Army Airborne Combat Military Policeman and traveled the world, I enjoyed my time on active duty and would not change one thing about my military time. It was awesome and an honor to serve!
After my training in airborne school I went overseas and my military career was off and going strong. My life was never the same afterwards. I really love his book, this was an awesome read and it knocked lots of dust off of the conduct that I used to have. I will work on pulling out the old ways of doing things for God like I used to in order to make good decisions in Christ Jesus. For example, praying about everything and thanking God in all things not for all things. I was good at that when I was young and my family and I were poor.
In his book, he had a hard start at life and the best part about it is that he was able to take the lemons that life tossed him and make lemonade out of it. God performed some awesome things for him early on in his life that lead to some even greater things that had an impact and un-erasable mark on many others.
This book has been a spiritual blessing to me. The author shares his life changing experiences and encounters with Christ Jesus our Lord. I love how he carefully and thoughtfully share his everyday experiences with us and I can literally see everything that he was writing out, I could see it and feel it as I read.
The way in which he allowed Holy Spirit to lead him and guide him is awesome. I am glad that he captured all of the accounts and shared them because I too have had similar accounts in the spirit. The voice of the Lord Jesus Christ is no stranger to me.
The two takeaways from this book was 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 and Romans 8:28. Pray without ceasing, in all thing give thanks, and all things work together for the good of them who love the Lord and are the called according to His purpose.
When things go wrong in your life, get down on your knees, thank God in the midst of it and just know that all things are working for the good. It may not look good and it may not feel good, your heart my be broken and your mind is confused, but if you thank God and praise God in that situation knowing that the Word of God is true, it shall be well.
Lord thank You that my wife wants to divorce me and take the children, Lord thank You that my alcoholic husband is out of control and making life miserable for my kids and me, I trust that You have all things in control, you would not have allowed it to be so, if it was not going to work for my good. So, please work a miracle in the midst of my thanks, praise, and prayers! Once we can come to God even though that sounds insane and crazy to thank God in those things, it actually releases God to move in a direction that will bring about the good.
A man named Ron got drafted to go into the military and his wife (Sue) tried to commit suicide. Ron later got orders to go to Vietnam and his wife did not want her husband to go. So Ron came to the this Chaplain Carothers (the author) office to tell him the Chaplain about it and the Chaplain told Ron to tell Sue to come in and see him. The Chaplain knew that she was adopted that she was estranged from her adopted family, and she does not want to be left alone.
The Chaplain says to Sue who came in crying and trembling, after Sue calmed herself, Chaplain said, what I want you to do is get on your knees with me and let’s thank God that your husband will be going to Vietnam. Sue started to cry uncontrollably over again because she could not believe what she just heard, so of course she left the office after the prayer. Ron came back a few days later and said that things have gotten worse with his wife.
So, both Ron and Sue came in a saw the Chaplain and prayed with him then they both went into the base chapel and prayed together, Ron had to leave to head back to his office but Sue stayed at the chapel for just a little while. As she sat a young soldier came in and sat next to her, she asked what are you coming here for if you don’t mind me asking, the young soldier said my wife wants a divorce, Sue said well it won’t do you much good to see this chaplain. (lol, that was funny to me)
The young soldier did not pay much attention to Sue as he opened his wallet to show Sue his wife and kids, but as he flipped through his wallet, Sue screamed out “who is that?” That’s my mother the young soldier said. Sue said it couldn’t be, she was shaking with emotion. That is my mother, the young soldier said I don’t think so, I don’t have a sister. What makes you think that my mother is your mom? She said that when she was a little girl she found a piece of paper on her parents desk that showed that she was adopted and the picture in the top right hand corner of the paper was that same picture that you have in your wallet.
After further checking, it was revealed that Ron’s wife did in fact find out that she was talking to her brother. Was it a coincidence? Of course not, when you thank God in all things, it allows God to work things together for our good.
There are so many stories in this book that encouraged me and I was excited I could not put the book down. Please read this book, and it will encourage you and give you a spiritual boost and light a fire in your bosom for the Lord!
Thank you,
