Book Report: Becoming the Iceman by Wim Hoff and Justin Rosales – Pushing Past Perceived Limits
This is an interesting book that looks into how immersing one’s self into 45 degree F water has not only a physiological effect on the human body by increasing circulatory responses, decreasing inflammatory markers which in turn ultimately enhance the immune system but it also has a profound effect on the human mind.
By facing our fears, and forcing us to go deep within ourselves we can push ourselves physically which also plays out mentally and emotionally. When combined with visualization and meditation the mind can be harnessed and anything is potentially possible or any obstacle we face can be overcome. Wim concludes “comfort zones can hold us back from doing something great”.
As a previous college athlete and now a business owner I have been exposed to these concepts over the years about harnessing the mind, our mental state and our emotions. And with meditation, and visualization and pushing ourselves past our perceived fears we can achieve or pioneer new paths of success. Now with the addition of cold immersion or cold plunging we can also add in some physiological effects decreasing stress, inflammation and increasing the response of the autonomic nerve system and the circulatory system, which as a natural healthcare provider is something I’m interested in working towards for myself and my patients.
