Report:
The book “Wild” is a memoir of the author Cheryl Strayed. After losing her mother, Strayed’s life gets flipped upside down. She gets to a point where she no longer recognizes herself. She knows she needs to do something drastic to find herself again. She decides to broaden her horizons by going on a solo backpacking trip on the Pacific Coast Trail. The book details the many trials and tribulations she experiences while on her journey.
I wanted to read this book because I can relate a lot to the author. I too lost my mom. After which, a chain of events happened that made my life feel out of control and eventually led to my incarceration. I’ve learned that sometimes there has to be drastic circumstances that occur to make you see change is necessary. For me, these circumstances are my incarceration.
I’ve also learned that the journey to get yourself back, is not an easy one. The road is full of obstacles that will make you want to give up. But, every time you keep moving forward anyways, you get stronger. Each obstacle you make it through gives you more hope and shows you more of your true self.
I believe this will help me upon release because I realize that once you make it through the journey, you come out as a person ready to face the world. I believe I will be that person upon release. A person strong enough to handle future obstacles and make it through.
