Why I Read The Power Of One More:
My wife recommended this book to me after reading it multiple times herself. Knowing my desire to improve my life and build lasting success beyond prison, she believed this book could guide me on my path to greatness.
What I Learned From The Power Of One More:
In reading Ed Mylett’s The Power Of One More, I gained valuable lessons on how to prepare my mind and body for life after prison. By embracing Mylett’s concept of “one more” in areas such as habit formation, perseverance, and faith, I realized that I already have the tools for success within me. This book has shown me how to use those tools to not only prepare for, but thrive, after my release.
Summary:
The central premise of The Power Of One More is that many of us are incredibly close to achieving the life we dream of. If we can push ourselves to make just “one more” phone call, offer help to one more person, or ask one more difficult question, we can unlock the success we seek. Mylett challenges readers to break free from laziness, complacency, and self-sabotage and take an active role in their lives.
The book encourages readers to step outside their comfort zones, take calculated risks, and trust in faith to guide them. Mylett emphasizes the importance of evaluating our thoughts, relationships, dreams, goals, and standards to ensure they are truly serving us. He urges us to ask ourselves where we can do “one more” in order to move closer to living our best lives.
For me, this book prompted a deep re-evaluation of my relationships and goals, particularly in terms of how they align with my values and God’s purpose for me. It challenged me to release relationships that do not support my dreams and goals and to ask more difficult questions of myself. Mylett’s faith-based approach has reshaped my thinking, pushing me to go beyond my comfort zone and live my best life, both in prison and after my release.
The book reaffirmed my dedication to my wife, family, God, and humanity, reminding me of my responsibility to be the best version of myself so that I can better serve others when I return to the outside world.
Conclusion:
Whether in prison or free, anyone can learn valuable lessons about setting themselves up for happiness and success by reading The Power Of One More. The insights shared in this book are incredibly powerful. I’ve already started applying these principles to my life and will continue to do so moving forward, both in prison and beyond.
How The Power Of One More Will Contribute to My Success Upon Release:
After reading The Power Of One More, I am far more self-aware. The steps outlined in the book will help me cut unnecessary distractions from my life and live with greater purpose. I now look for opportunities to implement “one more” in my daily life—whether it’s reading one more book to improve myself, taking one more class to grow, making one more person smile, saying “I love you” one more time to my wife, or setting one more positive example for my children.
I am committed to finding God’s next “one more” for me, both during my time in prison and after my release. I believe that living this way will allow me to be an asset to my family and the community I will return to.
