Book: “The Screwtape Letters”
By: C.S. Lewis

This book was presented to me several months ago. “I don’t have the time to read this”; I thought to myself. I put the book aside until one day in which we remained locked in. It was time I give this book a try.

After a few chapters, my mind was blank; I did not understand what I read, one bit.

“Chaplain Hostler, can you help me understand what I am reading? I ask the chaplain for help, because something about this book and the way it was lent to me that I had to read it through to the end. He gives me a few tips on understanding the intellectual writing by C.S. Lewis, and now I know why I chose to finish reading this book.

There is much that can be learned from reading “The Screwtape Letters”.
“Screwtape”, which is basically one of the Hell’s top assistants, writes each letter to his nephew, Wormwood, who is a demon in our world trying to deviate someone from the things of God. There are so many experiences in the book that we live through in our daily walk. This has taught me on opening my eyes to those ways others are used to be a tripping stone, keeping us away from living a righteous life, either because of jealousy or just simply hatred towards others.

I can’t wait to add this book to my home library, which I only just started while being incarcerated. I plan to share certain “letters” from the book with others, so they may find ways as well to avoid those deterrents that come our way.

This book was written back in 1942. I feel truly that if books like this one, with the knowledge one can take from it, could really help readers change their thoughts and behaviors as they go about their day.

I want to thank the person who brought this book to me, and I plan on reading more from C.S. Lewis going forward.
