A fellow inmate we call “Tarzan” has a pastor friend who sent him a few copies of this book. He gave me a copy and shared the others with people who frequented our table. We read a chapter everyday and then had a discussion afterwards. I got so much out of it that I wanted to do the same with my mother. Specifically because in the introduction it tells a story of a woman that reminded me of my mom. The woman in the story would call her friends daily for support, attended counseling sessions 3 times a week, and took a variety of prescribed medications. Her support system included everything but God. That was an eye opening statement that I wished to express to my mother.

The back cover states this book “spells out practical ways to experience Christian growth based on Christ’s promise”. It has helped me do just that. I understand myself better. With chapters titled ” Who Are You?” and “See Yourself for Who You Really Are” it is hard not to. The book includes an abundance of scripture, charts, a self assessment of your faith, and the results of a scientific study.

This book has made the biggest impact of all I have read. I would attribute a lot of that to how it was read in group setting with a discussion afterward. I am so thankful for being able to be a part of it.
