Book Report

The Power of Now is a transformative spiritual guide that explores the profound concept of living in the present moment. Eckart Tolle emphasizes the importance of superseding the non-stop chatter of the mind and embracing the present as the key to true happiness and enlightenment.

This book alongside Seat of The Soul have been life changing books for me. Enlightenment literally means more light shining into our heads. That light is wisdom, discernment, and inner peace that draws us closer to our creator. The process of awakening our third eye is simply the eye of God within the mind.

When we are not in the present moment, we stray out of bounds. Whenever we focus our attention on the past, we are thinking about the past in the present moment. When our attention drifts ahead to the future, we are thinking about the future in the present moment. So, not to say that we don’t garner our attention to reflect on the past and future, but we must not stay there too long because we must harness the present moment which carries supreme power.

Key Thoughts:

Illusion Of Time: The author illustrates that our attachment to past memories and future expectations creates an illusion of time, preventing us from fully experiencing the present. Do I agree with? Yes. I apply being conscious and present throughout my day. Even though I’m competent in this area, I still have a long ways to go.
Identification With The Mind: Tolle unveils the concept of ego, and how our constant identification with the mind leads to suffering. By disassociating from the bombardment stream of thoughts, individuals can find peace. I wholeheartedly believe and utilize this in my life, and it’s one of the main reasons I practice daily 20 minute meditation sessions.
Awakening To Presence: He discusses the idea of awakening to one’s true essence, which is beyond the egoic mind. This involves a shift in consciousness that allows individuals to connect with the deeper dimension of their being. I have struggled with my ego, but through practice of continually shedding my ego, each time it comes back, it shines in an enlightened state that shines for the glory of God.
Stimulating Questions That Have Led To High Level Conversations and Observations:

How often do you find your thoughts dwelling on the past or future, rather than fully experiencing the present moment?
Can you identify instances in your life where the ego has influenced your decisions and actions? How might embracing the present moment shift your perspective?
Think on a time when you felt truly present and alive. What was the situation, and how can you incorporate more of these moments into our daily life?
Some Of My Favorite Quotes From The Power Of Now:
“Identification with your mind causes thoughts to become compulsive.”
“Reinforced impressions in time become expressions.”
“Incessant mental noise prevents inner stillness.”
“The compulsive thinker lives in a state of separateness.”
“Thinking has become a disease. Disease happens when things get out of balance.”
“The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, it becomes destructive.
“People who have endured suffering always seem to appear more real.”
“Seen from a higher perspective, conditions are always positive. They are as they are. Live in complete acceptance of what is.”
“Most of the so called bad things happen in people’s lives are due to unconsciousness. Sometimes these are referred to as drama.”
“Ego is the unobserved mind that runs your life when you are not present as the witnessing consciousness, THE WATCHER.”
“Happiness depends on conditions being perceived as positive; inner peace does not.”

The Power of Now encourages readers to travel on a journey of self discovery, inviting them to question their habitual thought patterns and embrace the transformative power of living in the present moment.
