Biography Entry: Yachira Nicole Herrera

My name is Yachira, I am a mother of 3 minor children. I graduated college as a registered medical assistant and certified phlebotomist and have always been a good mom, I respect the law and always reach out to the community. my husband, who is from EL Salvador, has been in the USA for 17 years, always paid taxes, and never got into any trouble, he is a God-fearing man, a great father and husband. however, he was mistaken to be someone else and arrested and deported. Leaving me alone to care for everything and the children. after 2 years of filing forms to bring my husband home, the government failed us and denied all petitions. I became lost, broken, depressed and lonely. I made a huge mistake and acted on my emotions. I got into a relationship . After 7 months of falling head over heels for this guy, I discovered he was a drug dealer and a user. I fell into addiction immediately and became involved with illegal activity. This led me to federal prison. I was indicted and held for 2 months when I was released on pre-trial services. I was on release for 21 months pending sentence. during these 21 months, I attended 3 narcotics anonymous meetings weekly, one celebrate recovery, I attended church and I spoke at rehabs and recovery events. I sponsored others and had a sponsor, I worked the 12 steps of recovery and was drug-screened monthly while in a transitional living program. I changed my life completely with God’s grace and mercy. I am now a better mother, daughter and Christian. I was working as an electrician apprentice. then sentencing came and I was told 63 months. I am currently in a federal prison camp. I am a non violent, 1st time offender, incident free , programming, obedient citizen. I will advocate for mothers when I am released and I want to be a voice for those who are changed and deserve a second chance. I currently have a 3582 pending in the courts for primary caregiver of my children. I pray for breakthrough.
