Biography Entry: Tyson Tu

Since arriving at Ft Dix, I worked diligently to establish myself as a steady worker and volunteer. Within a week of my incarceration date, I was employed at UNICOR, and have since moved from a factory sewing position, to becoming a member of the Quality Assurance (QA) team, and most recently, a final QA on one of the factory lines. In my off time, I have a few hobbycraft activities and spend a large portion of my time planning and preparing ACE (continuing education) courses. In the 1.5 years I have been here so far, I have taught over 100 hours of ACE courses, including creative writing, public speaking, introduction to Psychology, and Clinical Psychopathology.

Upon my release, I plan on reconnecting with my family, especially with my elderly parents (I’m an only child of immigrants), and reestablishing my career/business connections. Prior to incarceration, I had started a consulting LLC in medical communications and publications, but I didn’t have enough opportunity to explore where to take the business. Once I’m able, I definitely plan to bring everything up to date and find out what is out there. I also plan on continuing with therapy and connecting with support groups related to the reasons for my incarceration, as well as explore any opportunities there may be in volunteering or working to help those with similar issues.
