My name is Shirley Hicks. I was raised on a big dairy farm where I was taught to work very hard from my dad & my mom taught me everything inside the home, sewing, canning & making everything in the kitchen from scratch. I was married at 20 years old & married for 49 years. I’ve made alot of bad choices in my life that landed me in Aliceville on a 20 year sentence. Since then I’ve taken my time & turned my whole life around, turning the bad into good. I have received my GED at the age of 65 yrs old. I’ve turned my life completely around, I’ve found Jesus & putting Him first has given me a whole new outlook on life. I know now that I’m a better person & going home to be a mother, grandmother, & a great-grandmother, which is now my main priority in life & staying strong in my faith. Being in prison has taught me not to take anything for granted & to live my life one day at a time & take the time to love, listen & learn all I can while I’m in this life.
