May 2016-present Business consultant for small growth businesses, primarily clients of KCR Advisors, LLC. Role includes:

  • Strategy development for clients
  • Coaching of Company Founders

  • HR policies/recruiting interviews
  • Guidance on Capital Market options

May 1993- March 2016 Co Founder and Partner of JMW Capital Partners,( name changed in 2003 to Aequitas Capital)

  • Initially advisor to owners who were in turn around situations- operations input, cash management, debt restructure and structured financing transactions.
  • Eventually evolved into M/A for clients and estate advisory services.
  • March 2000, closed on first JMW Client acquisiton, Christenson Electric, about $160mm revenue at the time.
    • 2001, stepped in as CEO to lead operating changes to shrink the business and work with US Bank to keep out of BK
  • In 2003, took over as CEO of Aequitas, and Oliver/Sidley became partners
  • Subsequent, led the firm in its growth of ACF, establishing multiple funds, management, Culture, Philanthropy Initiatives , all the things a CEO does
    • Including Aequitas University which we used to train employees on what we were doing on structured finance- (would be good to find the videos)
  • Charities during this time( no specific order)
    • Board Member Special Olympics- 8 years, Chair 3-4 years
    • Formed Pacific Northwest Academy, a K-8 school in Wilsonville with 2 other families- grew to 100 students at max- focused on academics, small class size, community/giveback
    • Board of Advisors- PSU School of Business 8 Years
    • Board of Advisors- U of O Lundquist School of Business- 8 Years
      • Tom Sidley and I let an effort to fund the solar panels on the front of the buisling, a $400,000 improvement to the new building, using Business Energy Tax Credits and a sale/leaseback to Key Bank
      • Created a work/college scholarship program for students to intern/work at Aequitas and go to U of O
      • Numerous Guest Speaking Days for classes/mentoring
  • Board Member of Be Undivided- a faith based non profit focused on adopting an inner city high school by a church and bringing mentoring, resources, to assist- Roosevelt HS was showcase in Portland- also focused on showing other cities how to repeat the model
  • Aequitas had a program allowing employees to take ½ day per month to work with their charity
    • Land lease with WSCHS toa acquire their new location- formed a partnership for our employees to assist the school and mentor/teach students
  • Advisor to Union Gospel Mission- Tom Sidley and I assisted UGM in buying their current location on Burnside using New Market Tax Credits to reduce their costs by 40%
  • Established and ran for 4 years with my ex wife an Equine Therapy program for 4-5 children with disorders in partner ship with Stony Brook Farms in Estacada
  • Sponsored and remodeled 4 bedrooms at the Ronald McDonald House at OHSU

1989-1991-  SVP Finance & CFO Microware Distributors ( $300mm distributor with 12 locations nationally)

  • Responsibilities included , finance, accounting, HR, accounts receivable for 10,000 accounts, warehouse operations,
  • Oversaw a staff of 20-30
  • Obtained $20mm line of credit from US  Bank 
  • Led a major informal Chap 11 debt restructure and eventual sale( where I learned turnarounds)

1985-1988- VP Finance & CFO Optical Data ( venture funded technology startup -patents for recordable/erasable CD-elite investors from Portland and VC community)

  • Assisted in raising Venture Capital from State Farm, others, negotiating technology/R &D Licensing deals with Dupont, Philips, and Sumitome, Teijen,
  • Small staff-  2-3 people for accounting, banking, etc
  • Sold to Philips in The Netherlands

1981-1985- VP Finance – Datricon Corp-  small firm focused on Manufacturing Automation PC Boards & Software

  • Normal Finance and accounting role
  • Led firm Public on Nasdaq with Paulson Investments in 1982
  • Merged with Scientific Technologies  in 1985 and grew to become a large player 

1980-1981  – Analyst for National Lending Team- US Bank Corporate Lending
