Biography Entry: Maritza Navarrette Mota

At age 20 I found myself as a single mother of 2 small children. Ages 4 & 1 yrs old. Having come from a broken home, with little support,i found myself caught up trying to make a way & getting inmersed into a life of fast money. I admit to mistakenly thinking i could manage to be a mother by day & a trafficker of many things by night. At age 21 i thought this life had its perks but i got involved with some people who became the start of my quick & extreme downfall. 2014 seemed to be once bad circumstance followed by another bad decision in my life. Dec 14, 2014 I was coming back from an illegal business trips with my two co-deffendants when border patrol pulls behind us. The whole thing happen so fast & i was only thinking of making it home to my children alive. I was charged with illegal transport/trafficking of fire arms & stolen vehicles. As well as a 924(c) fire arms charge for using a fire arm to commit violent crimes. I was 21 and facing a sum of life in prison with a minimum of 30yrs. Knowing that any cooperation with the law would be a danger for myself & those I love, that was not an option. So I was sentenced after signing a plea agreement for 144mo in federal prison. Followed by 3 yrs supervised release. I am fighting for a chance to be released to RRC (halfway house) or home confinement now. I have had a long journey through the BOP system. I feel guilt for the mistakes I made when I was so young. I lost everything in a moment. Many yrs with my children that I could never replace. I have used these yrs to learn all I can & teach myself to be the woman/mother I aspire to be. Even though i haven’t had many examples of successful people in my life, I am learning all I can from reading & studying the paths others have walked before me. I am thankful for this opportunity to get my story out there and God willing open many doors for my future. Currently I am reading multiple books/workbooks sent by this PrisonProfessors Program. As well as studying for my CDL and applying to a culinary arts institute program. Both of which will help me accomplish things I have only begun to dream up & plan for. I look forward to a second chance for life & plan to make the best of it! I can not change the past. Still I have learned many lessons from these experiences & I can use them toward building a better future as a successful & law-abiding citizen.
