My name is Betty Katherine Smith but my friends and family call me Katie. I grew up in south Mississippi / Louisiana. my mom was good people my dad ran drugs and cooked dope. Momma tried but Daddy won. He taught me lots of bad stuff like how to hustle sell drugs and cook dope. I have been in that lifestyle since birth. I am currently 40 yrs old I entered the prison system at 36 for 120 month sentence. I’m 4 yrs into my 120 months. This is my 1st time ever being in prison. Prior to incarceration I sold drugs, used drugs, and stole cars, trucks, boats, trailers pretty much anything I could and sold them as well. I also hung out and with very shady people. I made some bad decisions in my life and that is what landed me here. since being incarcerated I have taken many classes including an 18 month residential program of L.C.P ( life connections program) parenting 1 and 2 drug Edu trauma conflict resolution V.T Carpentry which is accredited through NCCER. I worked at Unicor and now I am the VT carpentry tutor. I love my job and working with my hands. Before prison in my brief moments of sobriety I welded, I was an AWS certified welder. Building structures gives me feeling of accomplishment. I have worked hard to stay sober and incident free for 4 yrs. I also have worked super hard to rebuild a relationship with my mom and kids. when I get out I would like to work in the construction trade.
