My name in Hunter Olson, I am a 23 year old farmer/rancher from Northeast Montana. When I was 18 years old, i applied for and received a beginning farmer loan through the USDA for $397,000 to rent and operate a farm about 90 miles from our current family farm. To make a long story short, a young kid, 18years old, with that kind of money most likely will start using the money to buy toys, pickups, and items not approved by the USDA. When I sold my first crop, i received the first check, issued to myself and “Farm service Agency.” During that time I was in dire need of money to pay a chemical bill at the local farm co-op so i signed both my name and the Farm service’s name on the check that was issued for the grain sold. Making those horrific mistakes gave me a consequence of 30months in the BOP. It has been a scary nerve racking adventure, but from the help of family, friends and the white collar team i will come out of this with a whole new outlook on life. One step at a time.
