Biography Entry: Disty L Steely

On December 2019 I was arrested on a gun and drug charge. A year later I was charged with possession with intent to distribute meth and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. I was 38 at this time. At this time my indictment had dropped and I was picked up on federal charges. I spent 2 years in county jail waiting to be sentenced and sent to prison. The judge gave me 120 months and I have to do 85% of the time because I do not qualify for FSA credits for programming because my charge has me labeled as “violent” even though it had no type of violence in my offense.
Before I got picked up on my charge I had already had in my mind to learn everything that the FBOP offers while I am incarcerated. I made a commitment to better myself in all ways possible. When I get out of prison I am going to be a productive citizen that gives back to my community.
I have been in prison for a little less than a year and I have already made a business plan and a resume to help me get doors open to bigger and better opportunities to lead a productive life.
I read everything I get my hands on. I utilize all resources that I come across. I continue to educate myself. I am getting enrolled back in college to work on becoming a Holistic Psychiatrist. I work in the garage here at the prison and I have learned basic mechanic repairs so I can maintain my vehicle. I have also learned to operate several different kinds of heavy equipment, which can help me with employment opportunities when I get out.
Success for me is defined to me by taking and grasping onto any and every chance and opportunity to better yourself. If you do things to improve yourself and your mind then you can only achieve positive outcomes. Never be afraid to ask questions either.
