Hello, my name is William Grant. Register #12634122 I am currently Housed at FDC Honolulu, I do not know my current destination and am awaiting sentencing, I should have my PSR this month which should tell me how long I will serve. I was found guilty of Distribution of Fentanyl (less than 1 gram) and Felon in possession of a firearm (antique Darne Shotgun) my case is quite petty in the grand scheme of things, my attorney doesn`t even know why I am here. Anyhow, I will send a headshot through the mail if you can give me an address to do so. I only have limited Email capability on this computer. I have done some pretty memorable things since I have been here, for instance, I have started a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit organization from here, typed up all the Articles of Incorporation, Sent in my SS-4 forms to the IRS, Got recognition from the Department of consumer affairs here in Hawaii and have been steadily contacting other nonprofits to try to network and just introduce myself in hopes of working on projects in the future. Our goal is to employ individuals in a “Daily Work Daily Pay” structure. Some would call it a “Day Labor” company or a staffing agency but the only difference is it is Nonprofit and geared towards helping the individuals that are employed through us instead of raping their paychecks. We will send the individuals that need/want more education to vocational schools to learn a trade if their employer needs that and we want to get the community to recognize that just because you have a felony doesn`t mean you are any less of a person. Which I feel is the stigma of society at this point. We wish to change that. I have met a lot of very talented and intelligent individuals while incarcerated throughout my life and If someone was to just give them a chance then they would see the real potential in these individuals instead of just immediately thinking they are inferior due to a felony. I teach fitness classes here as there really isn`t much one can do from this facility, they offer no classes to help one better themselves, yes they do have an anger management class but only for 10 people at a time and there are 130 individuals in just this unit alone. Their staff here are more focused on “safety and security” than on “rehabilitation” which is the problem. Be this is supposed to be a “holdover facility” people can be housed here for more than 2 years at a time, which is a significant time of someone’s life to just do NOTHING. So I try to find what few things we can to try to pass the time constructively. We started a book club which is great and the fitness classes we do are good but all these things are done by us. I feel there could be so much more in the ways of help and rehabilitation. So a little about myself……. I am 36 years of age I live in Kaneohe, Hawaii. I am originally from Key West, Florida. I used to own a Nightclub here in Honolulu called Saigon Passion III. It was an after-hours nightclub that was really well respected in Hawaii. I also owned a promotion company here on the island that did promotions for events and brought A-list talent to the island. I read mainly Nonfiction books and am constantly trying to improve myself. You`d be amazed at what you can learn from Dummy`s Books. This place is not too bad except for the fact of having nothing actually structured to do as far as learning so I just kind of do my own thing and keep to myself. I don`t get involved in politics and try to steer clear of the troublemakers. There are a few in here that I gravitate to which are the ones that are really trying to live better than they did. I for one am extremely grateful for this time as I have had the chance to reinvent myself, so to say. I am coming up on my 1-year sober mark (August 14th) and I couldn`t be happier. All my life I thought I needed drugs and I did many of them. Yet now I know that I have grown out of that and I actually enjoy waking up every day. My new goals for life are to help as many people as possible get on their feet and just try to enjoy every moment, I feel I have wasted so much time in life and I just want to enjoy the rest, sober, and giving back. I have done many crazy things in my life, I used to be a professional gambler in Las Vegas….. I`m sure you can imagine. Now I am just happy to enjoy my small 6″ x 7` window that has a beautiful view of the sunset off the coast of Hawaii. So that`s me in a nutshell. please let me know what else you would like to send and when. Thank You – William
