Book Report
“The Other Wes Moore” written by Wes Moore in 2010. This is another book that earns me a certificate from the library if I take a quiz when I turn it back in. A New York Times bestseller.
It tells the similarities growing up of the author and a man with the same name. Born blocks away from each other and within the same year. The author states “The chilling truth is that his story could have been mine. The tragedy is my story could have been his.” The author became a Rhodes Scholar, decorated military veteran, and found social and economic success. The other Wes Moore ended up serving life in prison, convicted of murder.
I found it very inspired and well written. I even had to look up a few words. Words like “Diaphanous”, could come off as pretentious but as a Rhodes Scholar… What is really inspiring is in the back of the book there is a call to action and 45 pages of resources to help youth across the country.
Time Magazine said ” ‘It takes a village to raise a child’ goes the African proverb. This book is a cautionary tale of what happens when a village is I’ll equipped to do so.”.
