Jerrold Maurer-06/30/2025-Journal #37 – 4 Days Until Leaving Otisville

Journal Entry

Today I started my day driving two inmates from medium to their freedom. This was my last responsibility as Town Driver.

Go figure, today would be the first time an inmate on my drive asked me when I was going home. I was thrilled to say “Thursday” and they both were genuinely happy for me.
Being in Medium is a whole different experience. I really empathize with those guys. I almost feel bad being at the camp having it “this” good or having the liberties we have.

While I was in the car waiting for the two guys to show up, I couldn’t help noticing these 3 songs came on the radio.
1. Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey – this song was on the radio as I turned on the car.
2. Simply The Best – Tina Turner – this song was played when the NY Rangers won the Stanley Cup.
3. It’s My Life – Bon Jovi – a song that is special to my family

These 3 songs pretty much sum up everything. Pretty incredible.
A few more songs that came on were:
Fortunate Son – CCR
Pretty Woman – Van Halen (dedicated to the love of my life!)
Hurt So Good – John Cougar Mellencamp

Walking to pick up the car keys, I passed the softball field and couldn’t help but take in the beauty of the Otisville property. At times, it truly is a sight to behold.

Coming back to drop off the keys, I was talking with 2 campers and also got to say hello to a good friend, who I truly consider a blessing and a messenger from Hashem.

It’s definitely a new feeling since hearing the news I am leaving this Thursday on July 3rd. Sadly, I only slept about 2 hours last night, but I’m grateful it was because of “good” anxiety. I think I was dreaming of sleeping in my own bed the whole night. I just couldn’t fall asleep. I’m grateful I wasn’t in pain, just restless. I then watched part of a movie I rented, and also listened to “When You Need Me” , my first dance song with my daughter!

Getting the news on Sunday the way it happened and being told my release date is on my 34th Wedding Anniversary will never get old and will always be a gift from Hashem.

Thank you Hashem for making all of it happen.

Baruch Hashem.
