Jerrold Maurer-06/30/2025-Journal #36 – My Release Date is July 3rd!

Journal Entry

I am beyond excited to inform you my prayers to Hashem have been answered.
This morning at around 7:30AM, my friend tapped my bed and woke me up.

I knock on the case manager’s door and she says “Come in”. I walk in towards her and she says “I have a date for you”. I approach her desk and she says “You’re leaving Thursday”.

She mentions she needs the person who is coming to pick me up, and take my finger print.
I am basically in a state of shock thinking “Wait, this Thursday is my anniversary!”
I asked her if I could sit as the chair was off to the left. She says “Yes”.
I share with her “This Thursday is my anniversary”, and she responds “Great, I guess the stars are aligned”.

Next, I add my wife’s name on the paperwork and sign it.

I have to arrive no later than 11:30am at the Halfway House on Thursday.

As I was leaving, I told her I’ll be thinking of her at my daughter’s wedding in just a couple weeks and pumped my fist in the air and she said “You just did a Breakfast Club”.

I shared the news with friends, sharing that “I got my release date, and I am leaving THIS Thursday”. They were shocked, elated, excited for me and shaked my hands and hugged me.

This is the best of times! And all of this after I got my aliyah in Temple just yesterday morning.

As I was writing this, our Jewish studies leader walked in. I wanted to speak with him earlier but he was in the Temple studying and had Tefillin on. I didn’t want to disturb him.

As he walked in I said “I got my date!”- He just looked at me already shocked, so I said “I am leaving this Thursday”, and he was the HAPPIEST for me saying “Awe, I am losing my best friend….(as he motioned to his Tefillin he was holding), and then said “we are close aren’t we?” and I said “yes, very close”.

He then says “All this after your aliyah yesterday”

All of this and more is because of Hashem and his blessings! I am beyond grateful to be starting this next chapter of my journey. I am beyond grateful to be home for the rehearsal dinner. I am beyond grateful to be at the whole entire wedding with my daughter and son-in-law!

Much love to you all!
