Journal Entry

After the hearing, the US Marshalls took me into custody immediately. I left the courtroom that day in handcuffs, still in my dress shirt and suit, but without a belt, tie, and shoelaces. I took a secured elevator down to the holding cells on the second floor and awaited a bus ride to an unknown destination. Freezing, hungry, scared. No phone call. No idea what was next, where I would be, nor for how long. It resulted in nearly four months in custody at seven different jails/prisons in three different states. All to pass another psych evaluation proving my competency.

The following will recount this journey. I will try not to complain or whine, but to share the facts of my experiences and emotions. The Bureau of Prisons exists to punish and to rehabilitate and to deter future crimes. I have heard others say the BOP exists to “remove all hope.” Hardships are to be expected, and just as do all prisoners, I experienced many. I consider my suffering to be redemptive, for both my own personal growth and for the glory of God.
