Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankel

Why did I choose to read this book?
I chose to read this book because it was highly recommended by multiple friends including a fellow camper at Otisville. I was very intrigued to learn first how someone survived being a prisoner at the Concentration Camp in Auschwitz during World War 2.

What have I learned by reading this book?
For me, the most important lesson I learned by reading this book is that no matter what the circumstances or how hard things are in life or being a prisoner, one still can control how you think and respond. The freedom to think on my own terms is within my own control no matter the circumstances.

How will this book contribute to my success upon my release?
This book and the author’s insight that although we can not always control what happens to us in life, we can always control what you feel and do about what happens to you is something I’ve taught my children and will continue to adopt especially upon my release. I do believe it’s not what happens to you, it’s how you respond. Life is all about having the correct mindset and I expect to continue teaching this principle to my family, co-workers and friends upon my release. Having the correct mindset is the difference between being positive or negative. I prefer to circle myself around people with a positive, problem solving mindset.
