I finished another book. This one is called ,”Michelangelo and the Popes ceiling”. The author is Ross King. He does a wonderful job of bringing to life the story of Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The author explains Michelangelo’s tumultuous relationship with Pope Julius the second. It took him four years to finish the project. I was also surprised to find out that Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo da Vinci all learned from and even competed against one another. Raphael learned techniques from Michelangelo and Leonardo’s art. Surprisingly Michelangelo didn’t even consider himself a true painter. His passion and expertise was in stone sculpting. He had also done bronze statues. His most famous sculpture being the marble statue of David. I really enjoyed learning about famous artists from the 1500’s
