Prison Professors end of April check in.
I received screenshots of my profile on the Prison Professors website from my mother. It really encourages perseverance. Once again I want to express my sincerest gratitude. Thank you to my Mother and to Prison Professors.
My goals for April were to complete 3 book reports, 3 certifications on Edovo and workout 3 times a week. I am happy to say I completed my goals. I have earned 14 certifications on Edovo. 2 courses were from Mr. Santos, Mastermind and Prison! My 8,344 day. Most were started a long time ago and I just completed them this month. It says more about the environment I was moved to than anything. Being in the Faith Based Dorm has really helped my productivity. My sleep patterns are starting to improve. That is a pivotal aspect of mental health. Mr. Santos mentioned Maslow’s hierarchy of needs in his Mastermind course. My eyes were really opened to just how awful this environment is. Basic things like safety, sleep, food, water, warmth and clean clothing are deprived from us so often that it has become normal. For example we have not been able to turn our shirts in at laundry in over a month. We wash the ones we have in the sink. The food is rarely adequate. Small servings of cold food on dirty trays. Our water is turned off randomly. Twice this week the water was shut off most of the day, and this past winter the hot water was shut off for a few weeks. At the same time the vents were blowing in cold air from outside. I say all this not to complain but to express how thankful I am for the little things. How thankful I am to be in this dorm. I know there are people in the world that are less fortunate than we are in here in prison.
My May goals will still be similar to April. Putting a number on certifications on Edovo can be deceptive. Instead I will log hours. 7 hours a week minimum. One hour a day should not be a problem. I still want to finish 3 book reports. I will be more focused on books that help me grow and less on fiction. I will allow myself 1 entertaining novel. For a fitness goal I want to focus on cardiovascular training. I have never been good at running so I want to improve in that area. I will commit to running for 1 hour 3 times a week.
Thank you again for helping me to become a better person.
